In the present work, Selections (from Truisms, The Living Series and The Survival Series) , Holzer uses text from three early series, addressing power, violence, war and death with succinct statements. Her aphorisms remind us that language is simple and straightforward; they are self-evident truths in a long series of statements, phrases heard on the street about war, politics, death or violence. Holzer asked Ilona Granet, an artist specialising in sign painting, to hand letter the statements.
