Mentoring relationships, especially formal ones organised through a mentoring programme, are often entered into with a defined time limit, or a defined goal. In our most recent Impact Report, 86% of mentored leavers progressed to positive destinations (full-time employment, further education, or higher education) vs. 51% of care-experienced non-mentored leavers.. There’s amazing potential in our most disadvantaged young people, potential that’s often buried because of difficult life experiences. For example, a learner may agree to work with a mentor for a year, or until they achieve a particular desired promotion. Frustrated by shortcomings in the tuition sector, Oppidan was set up to tackle the pressurised, anxiety-driven education market in the U.K. Having such a framework in place can be easier for both parties to agree than an open-ended commitment.
Oppidan Education was founded in early 2016 to support schools, parents and children through one-on-one mentoring programmes.
At the core of the activity is the relationship between the mentor and the mentee, where the development of the mentee is the key focus.
Mentoring is a highly valuable development activity implemented in many organisations.
